Kristine Cherry has been designing websites since 2000. Her first website was dedicated to the non-profit cause of fighting against City Hall and their plan to run the Metro Orange Line through her neighborhood in Tarzana, CA. The line’s original plan did not include the important design elements the community deserved, and only through the grass-roots efforts of T.R.A.P.P.D. (Tarzana Residents Against Poor Property Development) and its regular website updates did they get all the elements (except one) that were requested. They included things the city wanted to skimp on such as landscaping, trash cans, sidewalks and bike paths. These are amenities that make the Orange Line so much more than another ugly, paved road running through a neighborhood. It is now a place that encourages neighbors to jog, bike and spend time walking with their kids and animals on a daily basis.
From there Kristine formed “Civic Site Design” and went on to work for other community projects such as Tarzana Neighborhood Council, Reseda NC, Sun Valley and C.A.N.N.D.U. NC. When the city closed off the NC system via bid process, she had already established a portfolio of small business clients and redirected her efforts to help the small business entrepreneur. Today she specializes in ADA Website Compliance, does website and social media consulting and assists seniors in how to read email and navigate websites such as Facebook. When she is not doing that for her business, she is on an eternal quest to learn new skills that push her websites to newer and better designs for her clients.
In giving back to the community, she has helped her husband Dennis, run a local Red Cross Blood Drive for 35 years, held annually at Loscon – a literary science fiction/fantasy convention held over Thanksgiving Day weekend.
And when she’s taking a break from business, she does creative writing, jewelry design, enjoys watching pop culture movies, t.v. and YouTube series, attends foodie events with her husband, attends patriotic car rallies with the 805 Patriots in Southern California, goes to local Doctor Who, pop culture and science fiction/fantasy conventions and takes an interest in pop culture cosplay from her favorite shows.
